Because of its unique combination of mechanical and thermal properties, CFOAM® Carbon Foam offers high potential as a material for lightweight mirrors used in space-based telescopes and high power lasers.

In addition to its low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and high specific stiffness, CFOAM Carbon Foam can be produced with a high thermal conductivity which facilitates cooling and minimizes distortion due to temperature changes.

CFOAM Carbon Foam is easily shaped to the desired optical surface configuration and readily accepts a variety of surface coating materials.
