CFOAM® Carbon Foam Insensitive Munitions Applications

Vertical launch system on a Navy ship.CFOAM Carbon Foam can provide protection for equipment and personnel by utilizing its fire resistant, high strength, energy absorbing, low density, high temperature, and EMI properties to provide enhanced insensitive munitions designs.

CFOAM carbon foam can provide a lightweight shock resistant packaging solution for munitions storage and shipping.

CFOAM technology can also protect the magazines of larger systems, such as missiles onboard Navy ships that are launched from Vertical Launching System (VLS).

CFOAM carbon foam is currently being developed into applications to prevent potential sympathetic detonation (chain reaction of munitions detonating) and to meet increasingly stringent munitions requirements.

CFOAM carbon foam can also provide EMI shielding for the magazines from RFID signals to prevent an accidental detonation of a missile with radio waves.
